spoke of his long-time colleague and friend as
"Myth, Motivator, Mentor, and Man".
Then Scarlett's colleagues from many continents
presented work representing Scarlett's wide-ranging interests.
Richard Williams (Inst. Part. Sci., Leeds, UK)
reported on the development of standards for shape analysis
Maria da Graca Rastiero (Coimbra Univ., Portugal)
showed how particle size distribution affected ceramic fabrication
Jose Angel Sorrentino (univ. Cent. Venezuela, Caracas)
discussed the relation of particle packing to cake permeability
Henk Merkus (Univ. Delft, Netherlands)
stressed the need to consider sampling errors in size analysis
Yasushige Mori (Doshisha Univ, Kyoto, Japan)
described the use of lasser diffraction to determine particle sizes
Tuesday: Tutorials and the Banquet |
Al Weimer (Univ. Colorado, Boulder) gave a two-hour tutorial on
"Functionalized Nanoparticles". This was broadcast over the Web
so that industrial workers and students who could not attend
the entire Congress could benefit from this event.
AIChE President, John Chen (Lehigh Univ., PA)
welcomed the world community of particle technologists
as a fellow researcher specializing in particle technology.
WCPT5 Chair, George Klinzing, was master of ceremonies for the awards banquet,
at which the recipients of international awards were recognized
and the organizers and track chairs were thanked for their efforts.
The Society of Powder Technology of Japan presented
the Inoiya Award to Chi Tien (Syracuse Univ., NY).

The cake was attractive and tasty, but of modest size.
Fortunately for the large audience we also had 250 cupcakes ready.

Reg received many best wishes from his many friends in from many lands.
And we bade farewell to each other until the WCPT6 in 2010.
